Welcome to the Library Company of Philadelphia's Tumblr page! Founded by Ben Franklin in 1731, we are an independent research library specializing in American history and culture from the 17th through the 19th centuries. This page highlights materials from LCP's extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts, broadsides, ephemera, prints, photographs, and works of art.
Obviously, we love the Marriott C. Morris Collection at the Library Company. One reason we keep returning to these images is for the nostalgic view of familiar Philadelphia-area attractions.
Here we see children playing with a dog on the Jersey Shore. Though our modern-day beach attire may differ from what we see in this image, Philadelphians still flock to the Jersey Shore to escape the summer heat of the city.
