Library Company of Philadelphia

Ask    Welcome to the Library Company of Philadelphia's Tumblr page! Founded by Ben Franklin in 1731, we are an independent research library specializing in American history and culture from the 17th through the 19th centuries. This page highlights materials from LCP's extensive collection of rare books, manuscripts, broadsides, ephemera, prints, photographs, and works of art.

The 2016 Democratic National Convention is officially over, but we couldn’t resist sharing this trade card for A.C. Yates & Co. featuring two donkeys and their riders.

The verso of this trade card gives the following instructions on using the Yates Donkey Puzzle:

Cut the card where marked, then place the Donkeys so that their riders appear going at full galop in different directions.

Anybody want to print out a copy of this image and give the puzzle a try? If so, post a picture and tag the Library Company!
